Posthuman Era
Life, Death and the Desire for Immortality
Wood Symphony Gallery is proud to present Posthuman Era, a captivating solo exhibition by renowned Korean artist Kyoung Ik Min. Conceived and created in his homeland, Min’s extraordinary pieces showcase a unique fusion of technology, philosophy, and artistry.
Posthuman Era introduces viewers to Min’s mesmerizing world of intricate, lifelike kinetic insects - sculptures that blur the line between the organic and the mechanical, and challenge our perceptions of life, death, and what it means to be human.
Life and death are the inescapable destinies of all living beings. Independent of will, all forms of life - human, animal, plant, or microorganism - are bound by this cycle. Why do we age, suffer, and die? Is eternal life an unattainable dream, or could there be a path to everlasting existence? For years, Kyoung Ik Min has explored these questions through his ongoing thematic series, Cloning Report, a conceptual cornerstone of his Post-Human aesthetic.
"By cloning humans and living things in the natural world in complete or modified or distorted forms, I express “the eternal permanence of immortality and the endless human desire and greed that act behind it” in a foreshadowing structure. I imagine a fairy tale-like hope for immortality by using mosquitoes and bees that have the DNA of the era stored in them to be resurrected in the future." - Kyounk Ik Min
